How to Plant Microgreens
Microgreens are the latest craze in healthy, natural foods. They can be grown in containers and even grown in pots but the real secret of how to plant them is very simple.
Microgreens are less than three inches tall and are the next best thing to a dandelion seed. The plants come from plants that have only been rotated from one season to another, or from a single plant. The best time to plant is in the summer. The area in which they will be planted should have the right amount of sun exposure.
Because the microgreens do not have roots, they need to be fastened into a shallow pot. If you intend to plant them in containers then have a large pot with your plant in it. If you intend to put them in pots, then use small pots because microgreens love having their root space filled up.
To keep the roots in the pot, cut a piece of metal or plastic around the base of the root tip. This will keep the roots from getting out of the pot and causing a mess to the other pots or to the ground.
The spacing between the pots that are used for growing microgreens should be about an inch apart. If you are planting more than one microgreens on top of each other, then a larger spacing is needed.
Plants that are placed in pots will need to be watered often. When they are finished watering, allow them to dry for a day before placing them in the sunlight. After they have dried, you can turn them over to see that they are all ready to be planted.
After you have the plants set, you can water them regularly to avoid them from wilting. The leaves on these plants are not sticky, so they do not require strong watering as other types of plants. Once the plant is finished with its third year, you can report it so that it grows taller and fuller.
Planting microgreens can be tricky because they require a lot of attention and care. If you follow the above tips, you will have a healthy and plentiful harvest from your microgreens in no time.
